Sprinter Close Coupler Images

Hi All,

The photos below show the revised Close Coupler Pocket design on the Sprinter Rail Car.

Also shown is a comparison between our current Non Functional Scharfenberg coupler and a design similar to the newly proposed Friction Fit Functional Coupler.

The last image shows the cars fitted with Kadee couplers between them.

The Greyish car is fitted with a standard coupler box, while the Black unit is fitted with the close coupler box design.

So far from the feedback we've received you'd prefer the Non Functional Coupler supplied as standard with Kadee coupler supplied in the box for coupling multiple units.

We look forward to your views,

Your Chance To Be Part Of The Design Process

Hi All,

Here's a chance to be part of the OTM design process.

The factory came back to us late today with a revised coupler for the Sprinter.

Unfortunately to achieve this within the current tooling it means deleting the highly detailed but non operational coupler as shown below.

The new design is less detailed than the current one but it means that you won't need to change out the couplers if you want to run the Sprinters in a multiple consist.

So now you get to choose, which design do you want ?

Post your comments below or send us an email to sales@ontrackmodels.com.au with your choice.

The closing date for your vote is Tuesday February 2nd.

Sprinter Update

Hi All,

Just a quick update about the progress of the Sprinters.

We've been in discussions with the factory over some outstanding items that up until recently remained unresolved.

The coupler issue has now been corrected, when coupled together the units can now negotiate reverse Peco medium points plus 22" curves.

This was a major issue that needed overcoming. At least 3 major new designs were completed prior to an agreed design being implemented.

The Sprinters as packaged will be supplied with non operational Scharfenberg couplers fitted, included in the box will be Kadee couplers for those wishing to couple their units together.

Also the body was slightly redesigned internally to stop the windows collapsing inwards when the body was removed.

The main circuit board has been reduced in width and the circuit map redesigned to improve the reliability of the unit.

Additionally the side door tooling is now being corrected so it is not so deep, this request was made last April, they're only just getting around to making the changes they said they had previously completed.

At this stage the factory believes they will be able to supply the painted samples to us just after the Chinese New Year holiday break.

Production should occur shortly after this once both V/Line and us (On Track) sign off on these samples.

As a consequence of the delay to production run, we have extended the pre-delivery price until the end of February 2016.

The delays on this project have been frustrating to us but at this point we believe we have finally overcome the outstanding issues.

Thanks to everyone for their faith in us,

Sprinter Test Shot Images

Hi All,

We've received preliminary photos of the Sprinter tooling from the Factory.

While the images aren't the best, they do show how the model is progressing.

The tooling is currently about 70% complete.

The gear sets and underframe are still being cut into the metal dies.

Non-Operational Test Shots are expected by the end of the month just in time for the Hobsons Bay Exhibition.

At this stage we still expect these cars to arrive by the end of the year.

On Track Models Announces the Victorian Sprinter Railcar

Hi All,

On Track Models is pleased to announce our next Victorian model will be the Sprinter Railcar.

22 Sprinter Railcars were introduced into traffic between December 1993 and June 1995.

Cars 7001 - 7017 were introduced in the PTC Teal & Sunflower colour scheme, while cars 7018 - 7022 were released in the V/Line Red & Blue scheme.

Eventually all of the 22 cars were repainted to the V/Line Red & Blue scheme.

Sprinter 7019 was written off after an unfortunate incident in 1996.

In 2007 Sprinter 7007 was repainted into a trial V/Line Passenger scheme of Red, Grey, & Purple.

Minor changes to this scheme were introduced and the entire remaining fleet plus 7007 have been out shopped in this smart new livery.

Tooling has commenced on these models and the first samples are due late March / early April.

Features of these cars include all wheel pick-up / all wheel drive, detailed interior and drivers cabs, operational head, ditch, & marker lights. The cars will be internally lite with the destination board also illuminated.

The model will be sound ready with a 21 DCC plug supplied.

Expected delivery date for this exceptional model is towards the end of 2015.

Theses models will be marketed as a twin pack with both units powered.

Due the fluctuating Australian Dollar no price has been set as yet however order forms will be available around June.

All 4 colour schemes will be available with only a limited number packs produced.

Details of the packs will be available shortly.
